Moisturising is part of many men and women’s daily skin care routine. There are a lot of products on the market that hydrate, protect and nourish the skin. Most skin care brands offer both day and night creams. Some people think it is unnecessary to have 2 pots in the bathroom, because surely both creams do the same thing? But that’s a myth. There is a big difference in terms of texture and efficacy.
Protection and hydration throughout the day
In the daytime our skin is exposed to a number of damaging influences such as UV rays, wind, air conditioning, exhaust fumes, etc. So, we have to arm our skin adequately against these external factors. The right day cream can help with that.
First and foremost, a day cream contains more water than a night cream, which gives it a lighter, fresher texture. This is ideal for when you want to apply make-up on top of it, but it also gives your skin a clean feeling. Thanks to its fine texture, a day cream will also be absorbed faster by the skin.
In contrast to a lot of day creams, at Belène we have made a conscious decision not to add a sunscreen to our day cream. A sunscreen can block the sebaceous glands, which can cause acne, spots and other impurities. Furthermore, if you apply the day cream in the morning, after a few hours the protection factor has already worn off. So, it often gives a false sense of security.
Nourishing and repairing overnight
Our skin is a true night owl, because that is when it is most active. The repair process and cell renewal mainly take place overnight. Furthermore, that is the prime time for waste products to be eliminated and when blood circulation is at its best. So the idea of beauty sleep is not a myth. Throughout the night we are getting our skin ready for the next day!
That is why night creams have a richer texture. They contain caring and nourishing ingredients, such as the Nourishing Shield in Belène night cream, to nourish the skin more intensively. But obviously hydration is still important, because while we are asleep our skin loses around quarter of a litre of fluid.
A good night cream therefore supports the skin’s repair process. However, take care not to apply the cream too thickly because the skin is hotter at night than in the daytime, which makes it harder to absorb substances.
Are 2 creams necessary?
Some people use their day cream in the daytime and at night. Moisturising is always good. But the day cream and night cream have different functions and that is why you will get a better effect if you use 2 specially adapted creams, each with their own focus.
Also, don't forget to apply the day and night cream to thoroughly cleansed skin.
That will allow the skin to absorb the active ingredients better.
Good care from inside and out.
In our blog Collagen, the secret ingredient for healthy and youthful skin you can read a few tips on good habits for your diet and lifestyle that will have a positive effect on your skin. Because creams alone are not a miracle cure. At Belène we are proud of our unique 360° approach, which nourishes the skin from inside and out. This can be done using our Beauty Drinks with drinkable collagen, and our 3 cosmetics products that can be applied to the skin.
Also, smiling is important for good mental health. As the saying goes: “a smile is the most beautiful thing you can wear”. But smiling can give you fine expression lines. So the right anti-age care is a must to support your fresh look.
Furthermore, it is a widespread misconception that day and night creams and anti-age care are intended for more mature men and women. From the age of 25, our skin starts to show the first signs of ageing and cell renewal slows down. So the message is: start early!
